Bursitis

Bursa are synovial fluid filled compartments that lie between tendons and bones or between tendons. They serve to minimize friction between these structures. Bursa frequently become inflamed and painful for numerous reasons. Bursitis usually affects the larger joints (shoulders, hips and knees). Trochanteric bursitis is a common cause of hip pain.
