Fees explained

Theatre fee

For surgical procedures such as biopsies, laceration suturing, removal of skin lesions or any surgical procedure a theatre fee of $95 ($35 for aged pensioners) will be charged. This is not claimable through Medicare. This fee covers the cost of all consumables (sutures, gloves, anaesthetic, antiseptic, syringes, scalpels, cautery equipment etc) nursing staff, pathology specimen collection, sterilization of equipment and resuscitation equipment on-hand. All surgical procedures are performed with at least two staff on-site who have advanced life-support-and-resuscitation skills. Please consult with one of our doctors prior to requesting a procedural consultation.

Skin lesion removal

Once your skin lesion has been removed it will be biopsied for diagnosis and to assess if the lesion has been completely excised. Depending on the type of lesion that has been excised (melanoma, BCC, SCC, mole etc) an additional fee will be charged on the day that you return for your results – this will be around 7 to 10 days after the lesion has been removed. This fee may range from $40 to around $300 and is claimable through Medicare. Your out-of-pocket expense will range from $10 to $30. You will be provided with a complete list of our fees PRIOR to your procedure. This includes ALL out-of-pocket costs.

Cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen)

This is used to ‘freeze’ and remove skin lesions.  A flat fee of $15 will be charged in addition to your consultation fee.  This is not claimable through Medicare and is the same irrespective of the number of lesions that are treated.

Care plans

General Practitioner Management Care Plans (GPMCPs, or Care Plans) are a Medicare funded incentive. Patients receive a summary of their medical history, their medications, allergies, current health issues and proposed management strategies. Although it is primarily a tool for managing chronic health problems this information can be vital if you are planning to travel (even if you are travelling within Australia), if you present to a hospital emergency department or if you wish to change doctors, or require referral to allied health professionals. Consider it a safety net – all of your medical information is collected, summarized and given to you.

There are a variety of care-plans available. A care-plan may be recommended to:

  • People with multiple or complex medical conditions
  • Patients with chronic (long standing) medical conditions – diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, autoimmune disease etc.
  • Those who may require referral to allied health professionals (Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Speech therapists etc) for chronic health conditions
  • Those over the age of 75
  • Those with mental health, social or interpersonal issues requiring referral to a clinical psychologist

Care-plans can take considerable time to prepare.  If you require, or are requesting a care plan, it is important that you make a ‘long’ consultation and inform our reception staff when you make your booking.
