Botulinum Toxin for Headaches and Migraines

Botulinum toxin has been used in the cosmetics industry for several years to reduce lines and wrinkles.  It has also been used to manage muscle spasticity (tightness) due to neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s Disease.

Botulinum toxin works by preventing the injected muscle from contracting.  (To learn more about the use of Botulinum toxin in cosmetic medicine click here.

Botulinum toxin may be helpful in the treatment of headaches and migraines particularly those affecting the frontal or temporal region of the skull.

NB: It may be helpful to attend Kingsley Medical while you have a headache or migraine to determine whether this treatment will work for you.

The effect of Botulinum injections lasts around 3-4 months so often other preventative treatments will be suggested to prolong the effectiveness (and reduce the expense) of this treatment.
